This is what I got when I went to the following web site.

You have selected Ubuntu 16.04 using the HP Officejet Pro 8710 All-in-one Printer.

Ubuntu 16.04 supplies HPLIP 3.15.2 by default, which does not support your printer.

You must ensure latest HPLIP version (recommemded), or at least HPLIP 3.16.5 in order to use your printer with Ubuntu 16.04.

I tried to get the latest HPLIP 3.17.... but it failed. fixing this problem is beyond my skills i.e. testing an upstearm kernal.

If I could I would revert back to ubuntu 15.04.
