I just had this happen to me with 2.1+dfsg-3ubuntu3 on utopic. I had a VM I had been using for a days, then did a 'uvt stop -rf ...' followed by 'uvt update sec-utopic-amd64' and I was dropped to a grub rescue. :\

I'll downgrade again and regenerate the VM.
