Hi Joseph,
  Updated my kernel headers today, did a reboot. Added "nomodeset" at grub using 'e'. Booted successfully and recompiled NVidia drivers. Did a 'sudo service lightdm start' successfully and finally rebooted once again.

  At reboot, I got stuck at a purple screen (even though "quiet" and "splash" are removed). I had to power cycle, let it sit for around a minute. At boot, successfully saw status messages and booted. (note neither of these were with nomodeset).

  Lastly, I would like to make note that I am docked and attached to two external monitors. Thanks.
