Hi Fernando,
I also have a Toshiba laptop and I faced the same problems you're facing.
However when I've upgraded to Gutsy (clean install), it worked from scratch.

Nevertheless, in Feisty I had to re-install the alsa driver, alsa-lib and alsa-tools (http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page) to make it work. You could give tish a try. If you have any doubts concerning this, just drop a message.

cheers
joao

Hi forgot to mention that after installing everything, just run alsamixer and check if Front and PMC settings are at 100% an not muted (you can even try this before installing everything).

Can you help with this problem?
