Problem with Compaq SR1550NX Computer

Asked by Frank Emens

The computer is a relatively new Compaq desktop system.I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 on it and everything seems to work OK. I have tried installing:

Ubuntu 7.04 Live
Ubuntu 7.04 for AMD 64
Ubuntu 7.04 Alternate install disk (not from live disk)
Kubuntu 7.04
Linspire 5.0
Freespire
Mepis

Using the latest versiions of each distro. They all seem to install OK, but programs do not run cleanly. They all seem to behave somewhat the same -- when a program is terminated, it does not leave the system cleanly. They leave 'stuff' on the screen and seem to also leave the program space with clutter. After only a couple of attempts to do anything, the system just hangs. The only way I can recover seems to be to power down (Compaq, in their infinite wisdom did not supply a 'Reset' button on that computer.

Can anyone suggest why each of these newest distros fails to work properly on this system while 6.06 seems trouble free?

Thanks for your question.

Unfortunatly, I don't have an easy answer for you.

Please first run a memtest on the system.
After that, I'd like you to file a bug report (just click on "Create Bug Report" on this page). Please included detailed hardware information.

I have a compaq SR1550NX. every time I let the computer idle for 5 minutes it will become freezing. I have to use ctrl+alt+del to restart it. also when I alter the windows it will freezing. I format the hardisk and use recovery disc to make it like factury output but still ,problem is the same.

Can you help with this problem?
