Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn won't boot. I have a dual boot setup.

When it asks to boot it shows

Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic
Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu, memtest86+
Other operating systems:
Microsoft Windows Xp Professional

I click Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic then it says

Kernel alive
kernel direct mapping tables up to 100000000 @ 8000-d000

then my monitor says no signal my keyboard does not power on, nor my mouse

I can boot when i go into recovery mode and type startx. Also when I first installed ubuntu the live cd did not want to start. I had to change the vga output from 1920 x 1080 to 1600 x 1200 I have a gateway 21 inch widescreen monitor that does 1680 x 1050 resolution.
