On one of the myriad forums on "can't access tty" someone said they were able to download and burn the alternate CD, and then install O.K. The alternate doesn't run as a live CD, it is just for doing install and is a lot more streamlined than the CD Live. If the Alternate is missing some packages they can be downloaded and installed from Synaptic or Add/Remove. This might be a lot cleaner than the upgrades which can have problems according to the forums.
I haven't tried it since I'm basically looking for bugs, and I do have another computer which runs Gutsy O.K. (with usual Alpha type problems and many Feisty problems which aren't fixed on Gutsy). Cheers, Jerry
