Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at if you are uncertain if they are bugs.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community or asking at or For help on reporting bugs, see

fyi: I have just installed 18.04(.3) a couple of times in the last 3-4 days and keyboard backlight worked on machines that had it, so it's likely an issue with your specific machine in my opinion. I think you are better served with a question which will provide help for you, instead of getting a problem fixed for future releases.

What's the model of your machine? Do you mind running 'sudo dmidecode' and post it to

or just:

sudo dmidecode -t 1

What is the output please?

Has the backlight ever worked?
