Where to start? Migrating RH7.3 to a real-time embedded headless Ubuntu.

Asked by bbrunner

Where to start?

I'm migrating from RH7.3 to a real-time embedded headless Ubuntu.

My hardware is an ETX-format AMD Geode.

This is a "clean step forwards".

I'd like to know which package exists where that I can download to install Ubuntu (rea-time) on one of my targets.

I'll boot out of CompactFlash, run without swap or terminal, communicate with local hardware via ISA, and with other systems via ethernet/ip/tcp. Control/Upgrade/Adjustments via ssh/bash (unless there's a better way).

You cant boot without terminal. Its part of the OS.

You need to head over to:

http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download

If you need a desktop, download desktop. If you want a proper server without desktop, download server.

It can be installed to compact flash easily. You can even use the netbook remix and dd the image to the compact flash and you are good to go.

The rest is standard. You may need to install openssh-server to allow ssh functionality.

Did I answer you fully? Feel free to reply if anything is still unclear

REMEMBER TO MD5 CHECK ISOs
