Upgrade linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04 to 5.11.0-34.36~20.04.1

Asked by Robert Borys

Hello.

How can I upgrade linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04 to 5.11.0-34.36~20.04.1?

https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal-updates/linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04 page shows that the package requires nvidia-kernel-common-470 (>= 470.63.01) but I cannot see such version for Ubuntu focal, only for impish.

I've tried Synaptic and it complains about unresolvable dependencies:
linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04:
Depends: linux-modules-nvidia-470-5.11.0-34-generic but it is not going to be installed
Depends: nvidia-kernel-common-470 (>=470.63.01) but 470.57.02-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 is to be installed

My company requires that OS is up-to-date when using corporate VPN, "linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04" is listed as "upgradable" and I'm lock.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,

see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-470

nvidia-kernel-common-470 version 470.63.01-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 is already in focal-proposed.

You can expect that it is moved to focal-updates within the coming days (if testing does not reveal severe problems).

Thank you for reply. I solved my problem by "pinning" the old version.

/etc/apt/preferences.d/nvidia:

Package: linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04
Pin: version 5.11.0-27.29~20.04.1
Pin-Priority: 1001
