auto install/upgrade linux-modules-extra-$VERSION-raspi

Asked by Zigen

Hello,

I have the latest Ubuntu installed on my Raspberry Pi 4. I need the package linux-modules-extra-$VERSION-raspi installed as I use VLAN interfaces. The problem that I am having is that every time the kernel gets updated, I no longer have (the newest) linux-modules-extra-$VERSION-raspi installed when it gets rebooted into the new kernel.

This is extremely painful, as to recover, I have to manually hook up Raspberry Pi 4 to a display/keyboard and login locally to manually bring up a network interface, install the newest linux-modules-extra-$VERSION-raspi that matches the newest kernel, and then reboot it.

The forum post (https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2470820&p=14075737) also mentions the below:

"The 'extras' package dependency does not apply to the linux-raspi meta-packages like it does for the linux-generic packages.
For linux-raspi it is only a suggested package. I have no idea why, but you could probably ask the kernel team about it here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu...ce/linux-raspi"

Can you guys please provide a way / guidance on how to get linux-modules-extra-$VERSION-raspi auto install/upgraded whenever a (new) kernel gets installed?

Thank you.
