installing lilypond in ubuntu 11.04

Asked by David Fidler

I am new to linux after 20 years with windows(and it's problems) have just installed ubuntu11.04 and downloaded all the updates. I then downloaded lilypond but now do not know what to do to install it. As I am not a techie, could you please give me simple instructions on how to load it and whether I can use it as a desktop programme or does it need to be run in terminal?

i believe you have downloaded the package from lilypond.org. and linux version with a .sh extension. double click the downloaded file and i a window will be popped out with options "run in terminal", "run" etc.
just click run in terminal and your installation will start. follow the on screen instructions.
