Trying to install ubuntu onto old external linux drive from winxp but install cannot see old linux drive

Asked by strangelet

Hi there,

ok guys here is the problem.

I had an old Linux version on a separte hard drive on my desktop which I used to get to using lilo. However I was forced to reinstall winxp which overwrote the MBR and so I now cannot use lilo. I also tried to rebuild lilo with no luck.

So, I thought that this is a good excuse to finally install Ubuntu over my old linux drive. I downloaded the Ubuntu ISO image and burned it to a CD. I then started the install process, all whilst still in winxp. Unfortunately I cannot see my old linux drive.

What is the best way to proceed?

Thanks in advance.

G'day
I take it that you can not read the Linux hdd from windows.
I used this program
Ext2IFS_1_11.exe
sorry I can't remember the name of it. but if you do a Google search with just, 'name' that it will help you find it, I ask Google! "how to read Linux on windows" to start with to find the program.
Just had a look for it, I think this is it.
