Not able to login to my machine with any of the user account.

Asked by Dillip Kumar Behera

Hi

I'm unable to login as a regular user after a reboot. At the lightdm splash screen, I type my password and hit enter. The screen flashes to console, then I'm thrown back to the login splash. It happens for both the account, my regular account and guest account.

I have enough space and this is happeing on Ubuntu 12.04. Only thing I did before the reboot is deleted all the content from /tmp

I don't understand why it does that, I have a Linux bootable DVD. I can try repair but how it works I am unaware. Someone could help?

If you press CTRL+AlT+F1 and log in there and run:

df -h

Are any partitions full?

No, nothing is full, 1 to 5% maximum space usage by every partition.

Even I tried after removing .Xauthority file, didn't help

chown your entire user home to your user with:

sudo chown -R $USER:$USER $HOME

May help
