Cannot load, cannot past password screen

Asked by Christopher Kelly

Currently running windows 7

recently installed UBUNTU 11.10

running both with a bootscreen selector (default instalation)

Issue occured after laptop lost power (no power cable plugged in)

ubuntu loads the debian page, when i select the default option, or the recovery mode it takes me to ubuntu login screen then when i type the correct passwords it goes to a black screen with some code (briefly) then puts me back on the password screen

Did you use Wubi to install or is it a true dual boot?

I suggest you boot to liveCD and fsck your partition to make sure it is healthy

Having read something somewhere on the website im accutely aware this may draw some abuse my way or cause you to ignore me but "theres no such thing as a stupid question" (right?)

When you say "boot to liveCD" do you mean create a boot cd for the latesest version of UBUNTU from windows (my primary OS), will a USB work?

what would you type into your terminal to make sure fsck ran as you wanted it to?

Thanks in advance

Just ran fsck from the terminal in recovery mode ... not much getting returned even with -v

not sure if i can set usb as a boot priority on this :/ ... will try and get disks tomorrow if not.

are tehre any flags you would specifically use if you were to run the command?
