11.10 keeps bouncing back to login screen

Asked by Saguarotreker

twice I have run the 11.10 upgrade and once d/l'ed the iso but every time I get the system installed it boots cleanly as far as I can see gets to the new login screen and then when I attempt to login I see a terminal screen with info but it flashes too quickly to see what the problem is. Then returns back to the login screen. I know the system is running since I can ctrl + alt to a terminal but that is as far as I've gotten.
The upgrade worked fine on my HP netbook but for my acer its no good.
