11.10 Recovery Console & User Defined Session missing.

Asked by Geoff Smith

With Unity 11.10 Log on Screen, "Recovery Console" and "User Defined Session" appear to be missing from menu. How do I include these options please? I had initially followed this to return to classic mode -

I have sought answers via Forums to no avail. Thank you.

Tried command "sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback" again - reported gnome session fallback is already the newest version....I can't remember if "Recovery Console" and "User Defined Session" were options before I initiated the original command - At this stage I am at a loss to know what to do - I will bump post in Forum tomorrow - I am waiting for longer than the usual 24 hours to obtain a new audience. I am continuing to search on internet but no joy so far. Any tips would be appreciated - Thanks Dario -

No luck with Forum. I did a complete re-install but found no change. I am set up for 4 users if that would make a difference. I find it strange that there are apparently no others with this problem. Other than this very annoying problem I am very pleased with Unity 11.10
Thank you.

I noticed the logon screen shown on this link is the same as mine (near bottom of page)
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/10/things-to-tweak-after-installing-ubuntu.html

Is this the result of a fresh install as mine was?

Here is another link to logon screen similar to mine - Is mine normal (without "Recovery Console" and "User Defined Session") ? - should I not worry about these two options ?

Thanks Dario -

I have found the answer. "Recovery Console" and User Defined Session" can be installed by loading the Gdm package and installing "lightdm" as the default login Manager. Thanks to those who have tried to help and thanks to Dario.
