VT not working Intel Q8400 CPU and DG31PR Mobo
VT is not working Intel Q8400 CPU and DG31PR Mobo.
Trying to run kvm. kvm-intel tells me vmx is not supported and vmx is not shown in the flags list at proc/cpuinfo
the Q8400 CPU supports VT
VT Enable is in the BIOS. (under Security / VT / Enable)
Anyone have any ideas?
Does the MoBo support VT? Intel.com website is unhelpful as it does not list any chipset as having support for VT-x
for the attempt at answering, thanks... However:
1. The Q8400 is a Core 2 Quad. It does support VT. intel is very clear about that on their website.
2. I can also run 64bit VM quite happily but with no hardware virtualisation support e.g. KVM will not run. The why would I buy a CPU that supports VT and not be able to use it.... That is the question.
Does anyone know the answer?

Its the CPU that needs to suppot it, not the board
You can enable it in the BIOS but if the CPU won't do it then you simply can't. You can however run 32bit VMs quite happily.
Is the bios heavily outdated? bios update may help

actionparsnip you were on the right track. Thanks.
The VAR went to Intel who recommended a "BIOS Restore". vmx is now displayed in the CPU flags.
There are some funny issues with BIOS on this and possibly other Intel motherboards.
Interesting that the installer claims to have done a BIOS update prior to giving me the MoBo. It appears that the update does not fix the problem, it has to be followed by a restore.
Happy trails! I'm off to see the Virtual Wizard ;-)
