Will VDPAU work with Ubuntu default 'movie player'

Asked by mike

I have recently hooked an tv to my computer. Someone informed me of VDPAU and i found the website:

http://www.edhewitt.co.uk/2010/08/22/setting-up-vdpau-on-ubuntu/

Is it really true that VDPAU will not work on movie and i am forced to download this alternative?

Mplayer supports vdpau perfectly. This repo may help also:

I got it to work on gnome player and totem. I found downloading VDPAU and then gnome mplayer was a lot easier. Then all you got to do is enable VDPAU.

sudo apt-get install libvdpau1
sudo apt-get install gnome-mplayer
then enable.
