newer version of libv4l

Asked by matthewm

Hello,

I have an Asus U6S which had the "upside-down" video problem with its USB webcam. In July/August 2009 I contacted Hans de Goede who kindly took some information (board name and vendor), then sent me a link to libv4l-0.6.1. After compiling and testing, my problem was solved.

Now that I've upgraded to ubuntu 9.10, the camera is broken again. It would be much more convenient to me and other users if we didn't have to recompile and install every time we do a dist-upgrade.

In what time frame can we expect that the newer libv4l will be folded into the distro? Is there a way I can apt-get install the newer version even if it's not part of the standard distribution?

Thanks,
m

There is an PPA with newer versions which can be added as a software source.
Instructions are on this page:
https://launchpad.net/~libv4l/+archive/ppa
