I cant install Matlab in Ubuntu 14.04

Asked by Salman Faris

                            When I first tried to install Matlab through 'Ubuntu Software Centre' in my Ubuntu 14.04, a window appeared on the screen titled "Matlab Interface Configuration" and a field to type in path or some sort. I'm an Ubuntu fan but not much of a geek. And really in need of help in solving this one out.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi Salman. It seems, that You must have the installer e.g. DVD or by download [1]. If it is about DVD, for example, to start installer manually, You have to run "./install" command in a correct directory (on Linux). Also, please check this:

* http://thenameoffreedom.blogspot.com/2014/09/how-to-install-matlab-2012-on-ubuntu.html (probably most important)
* http://www.mathworks.com/help/install/ug/install-mathworks-software.html
* http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2237972 (see post #3 by briansfractal)

One more thing: maybe search for a Matlab alternative? The main thing is that Matlab is commercial, right? Here You will find some best available alternatives to Matlab for Ubuntu and Linux in generall:

* http://www.noobslab.com/2014/11/matlab-alternative-softwares-for.html

Good luck and best regards.

I'd like to express my heartily gratitude to Mr.Daniel as well as Mr.Mark for taking your time for answering my question and providing me with a solution. I've decided to stick with GNU Octave as it's almost similar to Matlab and that solves my trouble.

Thanking you
