Cannot edit fields

Asked by Julian Gordon

I wish to change the date format in the writer, but when I access the edit menu (Edit -> (Fields)), I find that the Fields section (as well as Footnote/Endnote, and a number of others) are greyed out. I cannot work out why. Is it a permissions thing? Or a bad install?

Thanks,
J.

The file is not read only. I can edit the file. Nor is the partition read only.

Hi Julian

When I open a Writer document Edit > Fields is greyed out, but if I insert a field, say Insert > Fields > Date, then highlight the whole of the date field, Edit > Fields becomes active and opens the relevant dialogue. Have you tried highlighting the whole field?

Similarly, when I insert a Footnote, then go to the text and highlight the reference number of the footnote, Edit > Footnote/Endnote... becomes active and opens the Edit Footnote/Endnote dialogue.

So the key to having these active is to highlight the whole of the field or the reference number.

Tony
