Problem with LibreOffice Spellcheck

Asked by wordsmyth

Having solved my previous problem with LibreOffice - thanks to prompt helpers on this site - I now have a new one: the spellcheck and grammar check are NOT working - they neither check as I type or when I use the F7 command. All required boxes are ticked. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Nathan: my version of Libre Office doesn't have "Other dictionaries available online", though it came with the latest Ubuntu update. Looks like 3.3, so do I have to update to b3.4? This is a darned nuisance - Libre Spellcheck SHOULD work without this bother. Thanks for your advice - will try to find a way to implement your suggestion.

when you go to Tools - options -Language Settings > Languages do you see that you have languages selected to use?

Yes, Nathan. Like I said, all boxes ticked...but no link to "More dictionaries online' is showing on the list.

P.S. I'll be off-line for the next week, so won't be able to pursue this problem until I'm back on. Thanks for the help.

Back online - with the problem unsolved. But I have noticed that the box in Tools/Language saying 'LANGUAGES' is blank. Could this be the bug? In the interim, I installed Ubuntu 11.04 as a dual boot - this uses LibreOffice 3.3 and works PERFECTLY, without any tweeting whatsoever - and opens documents blindingly fast. So unless someone comes up with a fix - am I the ONLY user experiencing this problem? - I'll remove 11.10 and go back to 11.04 for now...

Hi Nathan - SUCCESS! I downloaded and re-installed dictionaries and now Spellcheck works fine. Puzzling that they were shown ass already installed, but clearly not working not working prior to re-installation via fresh downloads. Thanks again for the help!

I had the same problem on ubuntu 11.10 with LibreOffice 3.4.4 tryid to spell with UK english and got no results when the were lots of errors.
The solution for me was to install myspell-en-gb from the Ubuntu Software Center and then restart libreoffice.
I supose you could "sudo apt-get install myspell-en-gb" from a terminal.

lovius: perhaps, like me, you had no dictionaries installed, despite their being shown to be present (fix this, Libre Office! See my comment above...
