email wont work

Asked by ed

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 11, and tried to email a document using LibreOffice. I hit the "send" button, but it did not send to the email, nor did it say anything about it.

I even tried emailing it to my email, and it didn't work.

This is a homework assignment for me, so it's kind of important.

Hi Allen.

I was just using the "send" feature inside of LibreOffice. For my email, I use Yahoo. I did that just to see if it had send it. It apparently didn't.

FTR, I did IT for 26 years, but am totally new to Linux.

That help at all??

Ed

Hi again Andrew.

Took me a bit, but here's the output:

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04
Codename: natty
ozdeeee@ed-Aspire:~$

Thanks.

I believe that button uses the default email app, so you will need to setup an email client and that button should then work.

All the Send does is to call the default email client to create a new mail message window and tells it to attach your document. You still have to add the email address and any message. The email client that LibreOffice uses is the one you have as the Mail Reader in Preferred Applications on the Control Panel.

You can do that just as easily by saving your document, opening your email, choosing New Mail Message or Compose Mail (whatever your email calls it) and attaching the document to the mail message. Indeed, if you are using web mail (i.e. in a browser like Firefox), that is the only way you can email a LibreOffice Document.
