pasting table data into Libreoffice

Asked by warren huska

I do not seem to be able to paste table data from the calc to the text application, formatted.
This is a serious shortfall.
i.e. if I already have a table set up in Text, and want to re-paste the info from Calc (in Word this would be a Paste Special Unicode) - the table starts at square one - I have to completely re-set it, chop it (because it cannot span pages) - am I missing something?

Set a tab between horizontal data, this will make the data go into the cells in a row, add the obvious carride return to differentiate between rows. Works in Excel too.

Hi Warren

To paste a table from Calc to Writer and have it as a table in Writer, use Paste Special and select 'Formatted Text [RTF]'.

As far as I know, you cannot update the contents of an existing table by any paste method. You will have to delete the table and paste it afresh each time.

To change the table so it breaks nicely over pages, select the whole table (click just to the left of the table and just above the top row) then go Table > Table Properties... and on the Text Flow tab check 'Allow table to split across pages and columns' or 'Allow row to break across pages and columns', and 'Repeat heading', as required. You can set up some default options in Tools > Options... > LibreOffice Writer > Table.

Hope that helps

Tony
