How to unlock LibreOffice locked files?

Asked by André Linden

Has anyone be confronted with the problem of hidden locked files in LibreOffice, which automatically locks a text file after it has been saved? Such hidden files can be identified by their '~.lock' (for 'locked file) prefix and can be made visible with "Ctr-H". Removing them should in principle make the original file accessible again. Unfortunately, I failed to do this under Ubuntu 11.4 and OpenSUSE 11.4. In both cases access to the original file or document for further editing remained forbidden.

Would anyone know how to unlock these files? Any advice or hint in this regard would be much appreciated.

Hi Andrê

I looked into this a bit further when it came up as another question. I looked at the contents of the ~.lock file and found a reference to another file in a libreoffice folder. Perhaps you have to delete that as well. It seems that the locking mechanism is more sophisticated than it was in previous OpenOffice, org versions.
