cant open libreoffice

Hi, I am unable to open any shortcuts to libreoffice. If I click on a shortcut a opening box appears for a second and then disappears.
I can get to libreoffice but not using the shortcuts. If I click on a "word doc" in my documents it tries to open and again the box is there for a second and then gone!
This problem accrued after I reinstalled ubuntu. Obviously something is now missing, but what?

try:

mv ~/.libreoffice ~/.libreoffice_old

Then rerun the app. Is it better

its a terminal command and means 'move'. it also is used to rename things.
