Base: txt-import fails, libreoffice always opens txt with Writer

Asked by Detlef Krass

Hi,

it seems, as if I have a simple problem, for which I cannot find a solution. I - as a libreoffice novice - try to import a txt file in Base.
Following the help instructions, I open the "open" dialog in base, select the file type and the file and click on "open". But then directly Writer starts up and opens the file.

But I want to import the txt file in Base as a new table. I guess, it must be a simple option somewhere. Can anyone help?

Thnx for help!

regards,

Detlef

Hello,

Right mouse click the document and select Open with Other Application.

For a more sure way install Ubuntu Tweak and then you can tell your computer what Applications to open your files.

Allan :)

Hi Detlef

You need to open Base, then select 'Connect to an existing database', select 'Text' from the drop down list and click 'Next'

On the next screen you select the folder which contains your text files, select a file extension (.txt, .csv or a custom extension) and define separators.

Click finish and you are asked to save the database definition file (.odb). If you open this, your text files will appear as tables.

Note:

- The 'database' is a folder. All text files in it are tables in the database.
- First 'row' in the text file is take as the column names.

Hope that helps.

Tony
