libre office saving document

Asked by mike and viv

After installing ubuntu 11.04 with unity on two machines I find that libre office cannot save any files. It freezes and requires a forced quit. I loaded Abiword and it works fine. I then made a usb stick instalation and booted from it and found libre office could save files. All systems were made from the same iso. When libre office is reopened it recovers the files that it could not save.
One of the computers it will not work on is a Toshiba NB500. Everything else works fine, although my brother hl-2040 printer printed blank pages until I put the correct PPD file in. I would like this problem solved as I think this is a really great distrobution.

Your printer problems are probably unrelated to the problem saving files; if you experience further problems printing, I recommend you create a new question.

Does the problem occur saving all documents (such as a newly created, blank document), or just some documents?

Does the problem occur when you run LibreOffice as a different user? (If you only have one user set up in your Ubuntu system, you can create another one to test with. You can do this in System Settings > System > Users and Groups.)

Thanks

On checking my only user profile I found it was on custom and greyed out. Changed it and I can now save. The printing problem was unrelated and I had already found the correct PPD file and it worked OK.
