unmet dependencies libreoffice-core wants openoffice.org /var/cache/apt/archives/????

Asked by D Mackie

I have OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 (or 3.3.2, not sure) installed in Ubuntu 10.10. I tried to also install LibreOffice by using Synaptic Package Manger. I get the following message:

An error occurred The following details are provided:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/libreoffice-common_1%3a3.3.2-1ubuntu2~maverick1_all.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/mime/packages/openoffice.org.xml', which is also in package openoffice.org-debian-menus 3.3-9556

How do I rectify this please?

Uninstall all OpenOffice.org packages before attempting to install LibreOffice, and this problem should go away. One way to find and remove those packages is in System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Please feel free to post again (in this thread, not a new one) if you find that you need help doing that, or if the problem persists even after you think you've totally removed OpenOffice.org.
