download and install readpst

Asked by Winnewbie

Binary package hint: readpst

Hi

I've downloaded and installed readpst-dbg_0.5.3-1 i386.deb. Now what? I don't see an option anywhere in Evolution allowing me to import an Outlook pst file. Please advise.

Download link is http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/libp/libpst/readpst-dbg_0.5.3-1_i386.deb

On latest Ubuntu8.10

What else do you need to know? Recognize I'm a 3 day old Linux user, from the Window's world if you need anything more.

Mike

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Currently Evolution does not support directly importing Outlook .pst files; such support has just been added upstream by the Evolution developers, and should be available for Evolution 2.26 on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty.

The readpst package provides an out-of-band way of doing so, by running it by hand from a terminal. You can convert an existing .pst file by running it from a terminal as follows:

readpst -o output-directory mypst.pst

This will read the Outlook PST file "mypst.pst", and generate an equivalent MBOX file (compatible with Evolution, and a series of other email clients) under the directory "output-directory".

Can you help with this problem?
