Rhythmbox and Banshee crash when connecting Samsung Galaxy S II via MTP

Asked by Jordy Dickinson

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10.

Originally I noticed the problem in Rhythmbox and Banshee as the summary indicates, but I believe it's an MTP issue because of the output of the command `mtp-detect`:

>jordyd@whisper:~$ mtp-detect

>Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung GT P7310/P7510/N7000/I9070/I9100/I9300 Galaxy Tab 7.7/10.1/S2/S3/Nexus/Note/Y.

>Attempting to connect device(s)

>LIBMTP libusb: Attempt to reset device

A workaround is to mount the device as USB mass storage and sync that way.

It could be a access right problem.

Is there the same or a different output when you try the command

sudo mtp-detect

The ouput is very similar:

>jordyd@whisper:~$ sudo mtp-detect

I'm reposting the output without the >s because LP hid it and I don't want it to be overlooked:

jordyd@whisper:~$ sudo mtp-detect
libmtp version: 1.1.4

Listing raw device(s)
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung GT P7310/P7510/N7000/I9070/I9100/I9300 Galaxy Tab 7.7/10.1/S2/S3/Nexus/Note/Y.

Attempting to connect device(s)

LIBMTP libusb: Attempt to reset device
LIBMTP PANIC: failed to open session on second attempt
Unable to open raw device 0
OK.
