How to get the version of installed libjpeg package?

I want to know how to get the version of installed libjpeg package from linux (ubuntu, debian, suse, etc..)? Can someone write a sample code to get the version?

It works only in ubuntu. How about other distros (fedora, suse, debian, redhat ,etc.)

Is there any generic command to know the version of libjpeg ?

That'll work in Debian too. I suggest you post on a RedHat / SuSE forum for the other distros.
