You may find a PPA. I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant the package will be updated sooner.

You have to take into account that Ubuntu is taking over most packages from Debian. Debian, however, also lags behind with its version of libimage-exiftool-perl (8.15-1 on squeeze and 9.13-1 on sid).

So the best solution would be to request that Debian upgrade their version, and then Ubuntu will follow.

As a workaround you can try installing the 9.25 version for precise from the https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/extra PPA (if you are running precise or higher), or you could download the most up-to-date source code from http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ and install it on your system (should be rather straightforward).

Can you help with this problem?
