No i386 build for Jammy

Asked by dswij

I noticed that libgit2 build for i386 is not present for Jammy. Is there any particular reason for this?

For what reason do you need the i386 version of libgit2 on Ubuntu jammy?
There is no i386 variant of Ubuntu jammy.

see https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2019-June/001261.html
and https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/intel-32bit-packages-on-ubuntu-from-19-10-onwards/11263

Thanks for the links.

We are using i386 version of libgit2 in our testing pipeline. Recently moved from focal to jammy, and stumbled upon this. I think it's just curious why the i386 version is available for all other versions except jammy (including kinetic).

@Bernard, this is not about s390x, but i386

@dswij
I have no idea why it is just missing from jammy.

There was a discussion in https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-process-for-32-bit-compatibility/12598 about libraries, for which the i386 build might still be needed. That list, however, would have caused that libgit2 i386 is also missing in focal, but it is there.

Weird fact:
The jammy i386 version was built here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgit2/1.1.0+dfsg.1-4
but not here
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgit2/1.1.0+dfsg.1-4.1build1

You should try finding a workaround, e.g. manually installing the i386 version for impish from the old-releases.ubuntu.com server or the version for kinetic (beware of dependencies), or converting your testing pipeline to 64bit (I have no idea about the effort needed).

Edit: 1.1.0+dfsg.1-4 was not built for jammy, but for hirsute, and has been copied to jammy in the development period of jammy, and still worked there.

Can you help with this problem?
