Radeon TV out stopped working after updating Kubuntu

Asked by Jukka

Hello

I have an old Dell Latitude D600 laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 display driver. I selected Kubuntu 10.10 as my distribution because it was one of the only ones that had TV out working by default (so that I can have a different image on the TV and the laptop screen).

I have noticed though that when I run all the updates on Kubuntu 10.10, the TV out stops working. I can still have the same image on both of the screens but when I select s-video as right of LVDS, both screens get mixed up. I've tried with xrandr and the GUI Display settings tool, the end result is the same.

I have reinstalled Kubuntu 10.10 and I have been looking at the packages that it could update. To my understanding the most probable causes for this could be:
- libdrm2 - 2.4.21-1ubuntu2 -> libdrm2 - 2.4.1.21-1ubuntu2.1 and/or
- libdrm-radeon1 - 2.4.21-1ubuntu2 -> libdrm-radeon1 - 2.4.1.21-1ubuntu2.1

Is it possible that these packages might mix up the TV out on Radeon?

I haven't verified this yet and I don't want to install these bug fixes again, if the TV out is working without them. Also xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common have available updates, but to my understanding the above mentioned are more probable causes.

Best regards,

Jukka

It seems that the Xorgs Radeon driver is still buggy (sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't in every distro). The update to libdrm did not cause the problem.
