Will libdispatch/libdispatch-dev be available in 24.04?

Asked by Justin Caselman

I am in the process of updating a component to build on 24.04, but I am not able to apt install libdispatch-dev as I have been on 22.04. Is it planned to be made available?

See https://bugs.debian.org/1024109 for the reason why it has been removed from Debian, and Ubuntu now follows that decision.

I see. If we were to take over maintainership would it be able to be made available in 24.04? Would we need to take over maintenance for Debian as well?

I do not know the exact rules for packages in Ubuntu without related one in Debian, but I assume that Ubuntu prefers having a well-managed package in Debian that then can easily been copied into Ubuntu.

There is another possibility that does not involve Debian:
Create a PPA with packages for the Ubuntu releases that you need.
