libcompress-zlib-perl anyone ?

Asked by KeenEars

The problem with libcompress-zlib-perl making the local repository copy to be erased was solved in debian package 2.005-3 as of August 2007. This package can be installed in Ubuntu Gutsy and works. Can anyone just copy it to main repo ? Please do so ASAP - almost no work required here. I can provide a link to this package (seems it isn`t present on some of Debian`s mirrors at this moment).
This problem currently stopped me from making Ubuntu repo`s DVD`s and begin to share them =(

As you can see:

libcompress-zlib-perl | 1.41-1 | dapper | source, amd64, i386, powerpc
libcompress-zlib-perl | 1.41-1 | edgy | source, amd64, i386, powerpc
libcompress-zlib-perl | 1.42-2build1 | feisty | source, amd64, i386, powerpc
libcompress-zlib-perl | 2.005-1 | gutsy | source, amd64, i386, powerpc
libcompress-zlib-perl | 2.007-1 | hardy | source, all

libcompress-zlib-perl version 2.007-1 is already in hardy. You can try to ask for a backport :

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

even though, being a library, it could be difficult to obtain it.
Alternatively, open a bug report an attach the relevant change that solved this problem (should be easy to find since it was fixed by a debian change, as the version number you report implies).
We can then request an SRU:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

If you open a bug report, please link the bug number to this question (see "Link existing bug" or "Create bug report" voices on the left, Actions menu).

No need to open a new bug report, the issue is known already (see link).

Yes, i`ve seen the bug reports, but it seems noone have taken the pace.
This library in fact is python script. It can be simply backported, or just used from Debian.
Can anyone just copy a package ?
Here`s the link to patched package: http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/debian/pool/main/libc/libcompress-zlib-perl/libcompress-zlib-perl_2.005-3_all.deb

The package is in testing (see bug report), so, if everything goes well, it will move to -updates soon.

Cesare - thanks, for your attention, glad to see that. How soon usually is it before -proposed goes to -updates?

Difficult to say as most devs are in Boston for the UDS; in any case its not before 7 days.
