should libcanberra-gtk3-module really be in debug section?

Asked by Olivier Korn

Package libcanberra-gtk3-module is made available in "debug" section, as do package libcanberra-gtk3-module-dbg.

Do they both really belong to this section? I believe that only the second one does.

Regards,
Olivier K.

The proper classification of a package in a software repository is determined by the package maintainer or distribution maintainer. The purpose of the "debug" section is to provide debug symbols and other information that is useful for debugging the application or library associated with the package.
The package libcanberra-gtk3-module is a module for the libcanberra library, which provides a simple library for playing event sounds. It's common for distributions to split the library package into a runtime package and a debugging package.
In this case, it seems that both libcanberra-gtk3-module and libcanberra-gtk3-module-dbg have been included in the "debug" section, which may not be appropriate. It would be best to consult the package maintainer or the distribution maintainer to verify the correct classification of these packages.
