ATA Hitachi HTS542525K9A300 has many bad sectors help!?

Asked by blakjak02

I have recently installed ubuntu 9.10 and i logged in to see that it has many bad sectors. I would agree with others posts that this is a bug, but when i boot into vista it wants me to do a disk check for "consistency", Is this a bug or is something actually wrong? What can i do to fix it??? Will i have to replace my hard disk?!

Its not a bug, your hard drive has begun to fail and data will start to be lost as the disk is used. The bad sectors will spread and eventually the disk will be unreadable. I strongly suggest you backup as much data as you can and buy a fresh disk to install the OS to then put your user data back in place.

Not an Ubuntu issue but a hardware issue.

Can you help with this problem?
