pls update to 1.62 as debian did, lib has a couple of new functions

Asked by G.S.

current version 1.65, that compiles on my xubuntu 9.10 x64, but crashes when used (seems 2 b some libc issue)
the version 1.62 with debian patch applied runs perfectly
the version 1.45, which comes with ubuntu is pretty outdated and lacks a couple of functions
so pls use the new debian package

G.S. (great initials BTW)

Ubuntu uses a timed based release strategy ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TimeBasedReleases ), which basically means packages don't get updated during a release - exceptions are only made for security or major bugs.

You can see if anyone has a PPA containing updated versions, you can search at: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas

The package does seem to be updated to 1.62 in the upcoming Lucid:

apt-cache policy libleptonica
libleptonica:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.62-1.1ubuntu1
  Version table:
     1.62-1.1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages

Good luck,
George S.
