landscape-sysinfo shows usage of /home instead of the root directory

Asked by Danilcha

I'm on a VDS, Ubuntu 14.04. I only have one real filesystem mounted, and it's mounted on '/'. However, the landscape-sysinfo (or the motd message) writes: Usage of /home: unknown. Yes, because it's just a folder.

Can I make it show the usage of the root directory instead?

Sure, just change the motd text. It's going to make the login slower as the percentage will need to be calculated each time you login though...

Checking the source of landscape_client it seems that the directory "/home" is hardcoded in the text, see http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/wily/landscape-client/wily/view/head:/landscape/sysinfo/disk.py#L35

I see some logic to switch from "/home" to "/" to display it's free space instead in some cases, but according to your experience this seems not to work if /home is not a separate partition.

You might consider creating a bug report asking for a modification to display the free space on the root partition in case that /home is not separate.

Thank you, Manfred! I filled the bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/landscape-client/+bug/1499104, but it is still untouched.

I have linked the bug to the landscape-client project (in addition to landscape-client in Ubuntu). Maybe that helps.
If you do not see any activity on that bug in the coming weeks, you might try contacting one of the landscape-developers.

Maybe you should add some more information to the bug report. e.g. some more details about the setup of your partition(s), OS details, version of landscape-client etc.

Thanks, Manfred, I added the results of 'mount' and 'landscape-sysinfo --version'.

Can you help with this problem?
