Installed KDE from Lucid-can't login on reboot

After install completed, was supposed to log out/options - but no options available. Had to reboot.
KDE started, but won't accept my previous login name & password. I am stuck in limbo!
Would appreciate any suggestions on solving this.

Have removed all KDE ...will forget this
