My Lucid desktop is a disaster!

Asked by Roger King

I upgraded directly from KDE Hardy to KDE Lucid by repeatedly using Update in Package Manager.

I got a new desktop which was totaly different to the one I was used to and in my ignorance I have made a complete mess of it and have no idea how to restore the original settings.

I no longer have a narrow strip at the bottom, it is now a wide vertical band..

The desktop shortcuts I created have all disappeared.

If I put the mouse over either of the Deskop icons I see a list of windows that I have used in the past, 4 in desktop 1 and 3 in desktop 2, but I cannot access them. When I move the cursor towards them the panel disappears.

If I open multiple windows and them minimise one it disappears, never to be seen again!

No application names appear in what was the bottom panel, I seem to have shut down that option and don't know how to get it back.

Is this situation repairable?

Thanks

Roger King

Sounds like you need to make a new panel, you need to add the windows list applet to your kde panel and it will list the running apps.

You can always rename ~/.kde in root recovery mode then reboot, you will get vanilla settings for ALL apps.

Can you help with this problem?
