upload speeds are consistently greater than download speeds

Asked by Chris

Hello,
I'm downloading/seeding the dvd version of kubuntu 7.10 . My upload speeds are higher than my download speeds...granted, there are very few seeders as of now, but this seems a bit unusual. I have both my download and upload speeds set to 0, and memory set to high.
Any cure? or is this just because of the few seeders?

   Thanks
    Chris

This will probably be because of few seeders. Kubuntu is less popular than Ubuntu itself so gains fewer seeders, therefore you get a lower download speed. It could also be the case that your ISP is slowing your torrent download traffic, though 9 times out of 10 they would have blocked the upload traffic. I got the same thing with the Ubuntu Desktop and Alt CD's on the 18th i was downloading at 120kbps but seeding at about 180kbps. Nothing to be worried about.

Thank you.

I also (after posting, d'uh) tried Googling, and found this: http://ktorrent.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1224 . I applied the tweaks in the last post on the bottom of the page (it's designed for Azeureus, but works fine for KTorrent if you enter the stuff in manually), and punched a hole in my DSL modem for the default ports, as suggested by the posts on the above page. Result: things have speeded up considerably.

I never was "worried" about this-just impatient :). I've already upgraded-I just want a DVD to do a complete reinstall from.

FWIW, my ISP, (BellSouth/ATTSoutheast) doesn't seem to throttle speeds.

Thanks again...left this post in case someone hits the same type of problem.
