MSN Messenger and Kopete name and display picture problems

Asked by Dublin

I use Windows more for work so when I switch from using MSN Messenger on Windows to Kopete on Ubuntu, the updated or changed name and display picture from the Windows MSN does not show up on Kopete - instead, the name and display picture I see on Kopete are those I've used months ago on MSN for Windows - any help as to how I could get Kopete to update the name and display picture as I change them on Windows MSN would be much-appreciated.

Thank you.

Hey!

MSN Display pics are not uploaded or stored on the MSN Messenger Servers. So, you need to manually change your display pic to the one you want once you have signed into Kopete.

As for the the Display Name, I am not sure why this problem is occuring (I use GNOME and aMSN), but you could fix it by doing the same thing here too: manually change it from Kopete.

Hope this helps!

I think that along with the latest releases of the WLM (Windows Live Messenger) client, they (MSN) made some changes in their servers.

For instance, I recall that while using WLM, if you check some box in the options, you'll get your avatar and nickname stored in their servers, which was not possible prior to those changes.

So... I believe that the Kopete/otherIM developers will address this, eventually.

Can you help with this problem?
