installing programs

ok well this program is ment for installing programs right? well thats what it said when i downloaded it and all though. ok well i am trying to install StepMania on my computer and all and it gets to about 25% and then it gives me >
0Kompile is unable to start sources configuration.
Installation failed!
Whould you like to see configuration log?

I've Tried to install this a couple of times and it just keeps giving me the same thing when trying to install and all then that is all that it will do after that and all though. if someone could please help me with this that would be great and all or tell me about some other program that i can use to install programs and everything though. Thank You.

Hello,

You don't need to compile StepMania because they are providing a binary download.
Go here: http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/Downloads
Download the Linux Binary

uncompress the tar.gz file and double-click on stepmania to run the game.
