Knetworkmanager in Kubuntu 8.04 (hardy) will show no active ethernet if a manual (static) IP is set. If /etc/network/interface is filled up static IP address data, then internet works but then knetworkmanager shows no active connection.

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

Reproducing the bug is easy. just exit the knetworkmanager. Then, I can easily access internet.

This is a serious bug in Kubuntu 8.04.1, please do something about it.
Students like me, who access the internet from campus use static IP address. Since they cannot access the internet (hence the distro turns out to be useless), kubuntu is loosing a great chunk of its customer segment.

I am unable to connect to internet in Kubuntu.
Knetwork manager says no active devices.
However, when I go to System > Networks > Network Settings, I see that there is some ethernet device ready with some IP address.
I am not very sure about the /etc/network/interface.
Please suggest.
