How do I get updates

Asked by machinercylr

As of the end of September of this year ,I have not received any kind of updates to ubuntu. I had this guy install this in my linux system and now since a family member is involved with his personal life, I have not received any update as I have in the past on a regular basis. He did have access into my system to repair anything that needed attention, however I find this ironic that this has taken place since then....any help? Steve

Hello steve,
Yes, the Dapper(6.06) version of update-manager has an automatic update feature built in. You have to enable it in the update-manager preferences ("software-properties"):

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu...ckage-upgrades
To do it please refer:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/configure-how-often-ubuntu-checks-for-automatic-updates/
Or if you are using kubuntu refer:

Hope it helps

If you are on Ubuntu, open up system => Administration => Software souces (In 6.06 known as software properties).
Click Updates tab
Next go to Check for updates(which is a scroll down menu) where you can set the frequency of automatic update check..(The 1st link gives you more info on this along with snap shots)

secondly, if you are on kubuntu type those commands in a terminal (Konsole)(alt-f2 first and then type konsole and run the app) and the second link gives you more very nice info on hoe to automate updates using cron.(an utility thats analogus to task scheduler in windows).

Hope it helps
