When I try to create a new account the "finish" button is greyed out

That's probably because you are missing some required information.

I tried filling in EVERY box and finish is still greyed out.

This is when trying to open a new data file from Home.

I can crate one using the file/new but it does not let me choose the built in categories. I want the more details.

Are you referring to creating a new file?
I thought you meant a new account, like in the Accounts view.

Did you choose a file name in the step 5? You have to choose a valid filename, better if it is in your home directory.

/home/bob/.kde/share/apps/kmymoney2/bob.kmy is the file shown and I don't change it but finish is still grayed out.

Can you change it something like /home/bob/.bob.kmy and see what happens? It is really odd.

I copied and pasted /home/bob/.bob.kmy in that area and it worked!

Not sure why.

i had the same problem, and this solution worked for me (except of course I changed 'bob' to my own name!! But why?? Can't figure it out!
